About this site

THIS IS BEN'S NEW BLOG ABOUT GENERAL ENVIRONMENTAL GUBBINS

Knowledge is power......but beyond that I don't have a particular agenda to push here. I don't necessarily have answers to the questions our environment is demanding of us.....but I do have the desire to get more people talking about environmental issues even if we don't all see eye to eye.

Problems are unlikely to be addressed let alone resolved unless folk know what is going on around them. And to that end, information & debate are ultimately better than ignorance or sticking our heads in the sand.

PLUS....it's a beautiful, awe-inspiring and sometimes terrifying planet. Put some time aside to marvel at it.

Wind power station planned for the bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond

Conic Hill

Well…..not the actual banks but not far off.  We’ll know more about the scale of it once the plans go on display in Drymen on Monday……but it’s a tired old story now and I can’t see it having a happy ending.

Stirling Council have apparently already marked this area as suitable, which essentially means it will get approved provided the developers don’t do anything bonkers in their proposals.  It’s difficult to go against your Local Plan if you’ve marked an area as suitable.

Laughable, as usual, is the reference to a “significant community benefits package” to be offered to the community if the application is successful.  It’s patronising double-talk.   Just call it a bribe and be done with it.

Anyway….I’ll not fly off on a rage until I’ve seen more about it…..but I can’t hide my dismay at the encroachment onto the National Park boundary.  Well, if you head to Loch Lomond NP in the next five or ten years, be sure to stand at the boundary and look INTO the park rather than standing inside the park looking out.
